The post Ways to Celebrate Earth Day in Arlington, VA appeared first on 19Nineteen Blog.
]]>Earth Day is an event that takes place every year on April 22 that demonstrates support for environmental protection. First held on April 22, 1970, Earth Day now includes a wide range of events coordinated by EarthDay.org
Here are the six ways to do Earth Day this year. The first is to increase your climate literacy and promote the education of climate literacy for students. Second, end plastics. Plastic pollution is one of the most important environmental problems facing us. Third, donate as little as one dollar to plant a tree.
Next, use your voting power to protect our environment. Then, join a global cleanup campaign. Find a local event to clean up your communities, beaches, rivers, lakes, trails, and parks. Finally, shop sustainable fashion. Fight fast fashion by shopping secondhand or purchasing from eco-friendly stores and shops.
These are the six ways being focused on this year for Earth Day 2023. We encourage all of our residents to participate in Earth Day in as many ways as possible. Also, 19Nineteen urges our community to continue their Earth Day activities all year long.
For example, participate in a community cleanup every month, use only reusable water bottles, or shop at sustainable brands as often as possible.

]]>Your resolutions may look different this year too, as these past few years have taught everyone a lot about overall health and proper lifestyle choices.
Perhaps you want to try smaller goals this year instead of one overarching goal for the year. Just make sure you set a goal that works for you! Here are some ideas to get you started.
There are the usual ideas of getting healthier or eating better, and those are always great! Find ways to stay active during the day, even in simple ways. Maybe purchase a standing desk so you’re not hunched over all day. Maybe purchase a healthy eating subscription service, and have less junk food in the house.
Some other non-typical resolution ideas include being more polite, meeting new people, learning a new skill, becoming more romantic, or so many other things!
No matter your New Year’s Resolution, stay dedicated, create realistic goals, and walk into the new year with your head held high!

]]>The post Handcraft a Holiday Masterpiece at the Wreath Workshop This December appeared first on 19Nineteen Blog.
]]>The former private residence (now a museum) is probably the perfect place to make this seasonal craft since you might have noticed that wreaths have been hanging on front doors for hundreds of holiday seasons. Learn a little more about the history of the wreath as you design a vibrant green door ornament using the provided freshly cut heirloom greens. The exact composition of your decoration is up to you, but the staff will offer up everything from holly, pine, and cedar greens to magnolia and cypress. They’ll provide the basic instruction and then let you loose, but if you have any questions along the way, they’ll be more than happy to answer them. The class is slated for multiple dates this December, and registration starts at $45 (including the cost of materials).

]]>The first Thanksgiving dates back to 1621, when the Plymouth colonists and the Wampanoag shared an autumn feast. Then, for more than two centuries, Thanksgiving was celebrated on different days by the US colonies and states. It wasn’t until 1863, in the midst of the Civil War, that President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day to be held each November.
According to the National Turkey Federation, 90% of American households eat turkey for Thanksgiving- whether it be roasted, baked, or deep-fried. Other traditional foods include stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie.
Parades have also become a common aspect of the holiday. Presented by Macy’s department store since 1924, New York City’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is the largest and most famous, attracting up to 3 million in-person spectators along its 2.5-mile route and drawing an enormous television viewing crowd.
As in the name, Thanksgiving is dedicated to giving thanks. So, this year take an extra moment to figure out what you are most grateful for.

]]>The rest of the brunch menu features influences from around the world, just as the dinner and cocktail lists do. For instance, you can also try the Ethiopian firfir for breakfast, featuring the nation’s signature spongy injera flatbread. The bread comes smothered with a garlic-based sauce and a medley of spices; you can add braised beef to make it a full meal. Craving something sweeter? Try the shahi bread pudding and add the Fatira trio, a mix of savory and sweet cheeses. Then round out your morning meal with a craft cocktail to match, like the Ethiopian. It’s a mix of gin, shahi, lemon juice, and a light sparkling wine served with a lemon twist. Melange also boasts its own take on the bloody mary, classic and creative mimosas, and more.
